Broken windows draw felony charge
A 28-year-old Salt Lake resident was charged with criminal mischief, a third-degree felony, after windows at a Lutheran church were broken.
A woman who was inside St. John's Lutheran Church, 475 E. Herbert Ave. (1045 South), on May 11 heard glass breaking near the south entrance, according to charges filed Monday in 3rd District Court.
The woman ran outside and asked a man walking slowly down the sidewalk if he saw anything. The man proceeded to throw rocks at the church, breaking the stained glass window, the charges state.
The cost to replace the windows was estimated at $2,050. A police officer found a rock in a pocket of the man's pants, according to the charges.
