Letter To Editor
This was sent to the Salt Lake Tribune in response to an editorial about the proposed plan to change Utah's state income tax to a "flat tax" structure instead of the progressive tax it is right now. They never called, so I assume it won't be published. Pity.
In your editorial "Flat awful" in Sunday's edition, you talk about the proposed plan for a flat income tax in Utah. Your worry is that it is not "fair" to lower-income families and that taking from the rich and the poor at the same rate is "unfair."
Nowhere in your editorial did you discuss the fairest option of all: an option that even the most bleeding-heart of people cannot deny is fair to everyone. That option is to repeal the state income tax altogether.
Liberty: an idea whose time has come...again.
